Its existence dates back to the exploration of the gold mines of "Escádia Grande" by the Romans. The mines were exploited in the 20th century, between 1938 and 1952.
Currently reside in Roda Cimeira 25 people and some more in regimen of seasonal alternation with other houses outside the municipality.
As relevant attraction points is especially noteworthy its river pool of special beauty whose clear water comes directly from the surrounding mountains, a visit to the former mines of CUF, now deactivated.
